Multiple burst drains in an inaccessible five-storey riser — access opened, repaired, made good

A reactive helpdesk call: several drainage pipes had burst inside a sealed riser running through five floors. We surveyed jointly with the drainage specialist, formed access openings, and reinstated walls, ceilings and carpets once repairs were complete.

Access opening formed into a hotel service riser for drainage repairs

Background

The riser was fully enclosed with no access panels, so the leaks could neither be inspected nor repaired.

The challenge

Water damage across five floors, an inaccessible riser, and a specialist contractor who needed safe access to work.

What we did

  1. 1Joint survey with Metro Mechanical to locate each failure.
  2. 2Formed access openings floor by floor so the drainage specialist could carry out repairs.
  3. 3Repaired walls and ceilings and replaced carpets once the pipework was signed off.
