Asbestos removal, fire-stopping and new ceilings over Christmas — delivered on the original date

A short-notice Christmas project: write the Construction Phase Plan, remove asbestos, reinstate fire-stopping to FRA requirements and fit new corridor ceiling grids — under COVID-19 restrictions.

Corridor ceiling grid and fire-stopping reinstatement in a Premier Inn hotel

Background

The hotel had a narrow Christmas window to remediate asbestos-containing materials and bring corridor fire compartmentation up to the standard set out in its Fire Risk Assessment.

The challenge

The Construction Phase Plan, materials and labour had to be organised in days. Work had to comply fully with health, safety and pandemic controls, and the hotel had a fixed reopening date.

What we did

  1. 1Produced the CPP, RAMS and programme within the notice period.
  2. 2Coordinated licensed asbestos removal, then reinstated fire-stopping and compartmentation in line with the FRA.
  3. 3Installed new suspended ceiling grids along the corridors.
  4. 4Absorbed additional works identified on site without moving the completion date.
  5. 5Chlorinated the water tanks before handover so the hotel reopened compliant.
